It’s essential that you are an example of the behaviours they want to manifest in their team. You need to own it!
●` Stop Making Assumptions. Everyone is different (remember the seed analogy). That means the way you’ll motivate one team member may not work with someone else. Talk with them rather than at them. Discover what drives the individual.
● You have reached your level of incompetence. You’re going to make mistakes. People understand and are far more accepting of people who are honest rather than blaming others. You’ll be introduced to a cracking term later in the program, it’s not the crime it’s the cover cover-up. You’re on this program for a reason, to learn how to Manage humans at work.
● Engage your workforce to deliver. Remember the four enablers: Strategic Narrative, Engaging Managers, Integrity and Employees Voice. Start being mindful of how much you listen compared to how much you talk. If your team members don’t feel heard they’re less likely to trust you. Remember the word listen contains the same letters as ‘silent’.
● Choose an accountability partner. That could be another Manager in your company who is taking this course, your Manager or a mentor. You’re twice as likely to succeed with an accountability partner. Meet with them at least 3 times during the course to talk through the learnings. It’ll be super interesting to hear their take on trust and how to implement these learnings in the context of your workplace and culture.
